This week's record: 7-3
2010 record: 65-35 (65%)
Week 10 Stream of Consciousness: How many ACC teams wish they could have gotten to play Virginia Tech in Week 2 instead of Week 10?... There were 105 points scored the last time Michigan and Illinois met in a game. The game of basketball. 67-65 Seriously? TCU's only given up 85 - ALL YEAR... Oklahoma State racked up 725 total yards, whipping Baylor like they wer the Bears of old. However, Baylor still stands at number 2 in the Big 12 South (see "This week's sign of the apocalypse")... Boise rocked Hawaii, while Kellen Moore put up over 500 yards passing. The Broncos' D did a fine job slowing down a Warriors' attack that put up 36 points and 500 yards on USC... The Huskers' QB was out. And his backup. The wind blew at 35mph in Ames, and the Cyclones very nearly pulled off another shocker... Florida State gave up 436 passing yards to UNC, and the yearly "ACC Wheel! Of! Destiny!" has begun (see "Week 10 WTF?!?")... The Mad Hatter strikes again, and I will eat my hat... Stanford became the first team to score more than 30 on Arizona. Don't worry, Wildcats! You'll have more chances to give up 30. You still have to play Oregon!!!... Arkansas took advantage of the Gamecocks' suspect pass defense, but it was the ease at which the Hogs ran the ball that should give Spurrier the most nightmares, as he faces Florida next week in the SEC-East "championship game."
Week 10 WTF?!?
WTF, Ranked Big 12 Schools? Ranked Big 12 schools went 2-3 this week, and one of the wins was Baylor-OkState, in which one team had to win, and the other was an overtime squeaker by Nebraska in Ames. What's the point of rankings if you're going to go and lose to lower ranked teams.... ohhhh that's the point. Consider the voters warned. Some of you won't see this high of rankings for a while (or, in Baylor's case, ever again).
WTF, ACC? While the Coastal division (and while I'm at it, WTF ACC Division Names?) is all but sealed up for Virginia Tech, the Atlantic is wide open. In fact, 4 teams can conceivably win the division. Florida State is a half-game ahead of NCState (who holds the tiebreaker) and Maryland (who has yet to play FSU or NCST). Clemson is a half-game behind those two, but holds the tie-breaker with NCState, and lost the tie-breaker to Maryland yet, and still must play FSU. Yep. That's the definition of a crapshoot. Spin that wheel, ESPN. It may be spinning for quite some time.
WTF, Colorado? You allowed Kansas to score 35 points - after being up 45-17 with 11:06 left in the FOURTH QUARTER. Kansas had scored 40 points in all its Big 12 games up to last weekend... combined.
WTF? Les Miles eats grass?
WTF? The highest ranked team from the state of Florida is... UCF.
This week's sign of the apocalypse:
Remember in 2008 the Hoopla that was the Big 12 South Division? Texas beat OU who beat Texas Tech who beat Texas? The rest of the division was an afterthought after that whole mess. Today, the Big 12 South Division stands as follows:
- Oklahoma State (4-1, 8-1)
- Baylor (4-2, 7-3)
- Texas A&M (3-2, 6-3)
- Oklahoma (3-2, 7-2)
- Texas Tech (3-4, 5-4)
- Texas (2-4, 4-5)
Um, what??? Texas Tech has become bowl-eligible for 16 straight years, the longest in the conference. Texas snapped their 9-win season streak, and are in total implosion mode after a 39-14 loss to K-State in which everything went wrong. I mean, everything. Even when the Longhorns blocked a PAT, the Wildcats simply scooped it up and walked in for 2. Oklahoma is the Jekyll and Hyde of the conference, laying a big fat egg in College Station. My my, how things have changed.
Game of the Week! TCU 47, Utah 7.
GOTW record: 7-3 (70%)
I was right about it not being close. I had no idea it'd be that decisive.
Why I was right:
- TCU racked up 558 yards, including a 22-27-381 performance from QB Andy Dalton on Utah's previously-solid defense. The Utes handled the Frog's run game respectably, but Dalton's aerial success is stunning, to say the least.
- Utah was not able to move the ball. At all. They finished with under 200 yards total, and turned the ball over 4 times on the afternoon.
- Utah's 21-game home win streak was snapped.
- This TCU team could be the best in the country. Will they get a chance to prove it?
