2010 Overall Record: 14-6 (70%)
Gaa another subpar week... I'll have to kick it up next time out!
Week 2 Stream of Consciousness: Auburn's offense has a hard time scoring when in position. So does Mississippi State's.... South Carolina has a rushing offense, and has a leg up on the East division title ?!? ...Florida still isn't dominating inferior opponents like they used to (and pollsters pretend they still are)... Oklahoma faked us out last week - shame on you Bob Stoops. And enjoy the next family get-together... Michigan's missing two things: a quarterback missing tied laces, and a defense missing teeth... Colorado spent too much time reveling at being in the Pac-10 and forgot they were just there visiting, this time. California impressed, but, it WAS Colorado... Alabama proves they can win just fine without an injured Ingram (sub Richardson is tearing it up). So how is he still on people's Heisman lists???... Oregon scored 45 unanswered points against Tennessee. The Vols' depth is clearly lacking... Stanford's QB Luck looked human, but luckily UCLA's offense is sub-human.
Week 2 WTF?!?
WTF, ACC? Your top programs lost to Oklahoma (FSU, 47-16), Ohio State (Miami, 36-24), Kansas (Georgia Tech, 28-25), and James Madison... that's right. James-Freaking-Madison (Virginia Tech, 21-16). Another program is NCAA-mandated to effectively play only backups (UNC). Is there even a favorite at this point? And really, what would that winner do? Repeat Week 2's performance in a BCS bowl game on national TV? Can't wait.
WTF, FBS schools? Five FCS teams have beaten you. Jacksonville State over Ole Miss (of the "mighty" SEC, no less), 49-48. North Dakota State over Kansas, 6-3. James Madison over (#13) Virginia Tech, 21-16. South Dakota over Minnesota, 41-38. Gardner-Webb over Akron, 38-37. Liberty over Ball State, 27-23. The FCS Colonial Athletic Conference is carries a winning 3-2 record against the ACC over the past two years. (we can add this to the ACC WTF? above as well.)
WTF, Pollsters? Talk about awarding tradition over actual wins: How is USC still ranked after destroying powerhouses Hawaii (49-36) and Virginia (17-14) by such wide margins??? *sarcasm
Game of the Week Prediction. Ohio State 36, Miami 24.
2010 GOTW Record: 2-0 (100%)
Why I was right:
- Miami's special teams took two kicks (a punt and a kickoff) back to the house, and the defense was good-not-great, and Jacory Harris had to go throw 4 picks and ruin the party for everyone.
- No offense to Ohio State - the defense was outstanding
- Offense to ESPN's hyping of Terrelle Pryor. Check out these Heisman-worthy stats: 12-27 for 233 yards and a touchdown. Rushing, 20 for 113 yards. Good numbers. ESPN's headline: "Pryor leads OSU past Miami. Harris throws 4 INTs" In order of importance to the game's outcome, these phrases should be switched.
- Cheers to OSU's home record under Tressel: 27-2 in non-conference games.
Week 3 is so very close; I can almost feel it. And if you listen closely, you can just barely hear the ACC's heartbeat...
